I’m Martin Nichols, a Quebec dairy farmer and founder of Farmitrax.

On this site, I write about agriculture, farm management, technology and the decisions that affect the agricultural world. I publish news roundups, analyses and reflections drawn both from current events and from my own experience on the farm.

Agricultural news, without the spin

Agriculture is changing quickly. Public policy, markets, technology and the decisions made by agricultural organizations have very real consequences on farms.

Here, I gather and analyze the news that deserves farmers’ attention: supply management, dairy production, agricultural policy, innovation, regulation and the major issues shaping the sector.

My goal is not to repeat press releases, but to explain what is changing and why it matters.

Farmitrax: herd management built on a farm

Farmitrax is a web-based dairy herd management application that I am developing around needs I encounter on my own farm.

It helps farmers know what needs to be done, quickly find information about their animals and maintain a clear history of interventions.

The modules currently available allow farmers to manage:

  • reproduction;
  • health;
  • barn layout.

Farmitrax is designed to remain simple, practical and easy to use in day-to-day farm work.

A perspective grounded in reality

I work in dairy production on a family farm that has been established for more than a century. I am also interested in entrepreneurship, management, politics and technology development.

That mix shapes what I write here. The topics may vary, but the starting point remains the same: understanding how ideas, decisions and tools actually work when they meet reality.
